Byron Bundoc was unwinding in his car in the driveway of his Virginia Beach home, playing the Virginia Lottery's Jackpot Spectacular on his phone.
He'd been watching the jackpot steadily growing in that game and, as he sat there playing, he suddenly realized he had won — big: Bundoc had hit the $1,817,588 jackpot.
That's the largest prize ever won in the US in an online instant game.
"It was surreal," he told Lottery officials. “I called my brother and said, ‘You’re not going to believe this!'"
Jackpot Spectacular is a unique, online, multi-state game played in Virginia and Pennsylvania. It features a progressive, growing jackpot and can be accessed at the Virginia Lottery’s website, valottery.com, or on the Lottery’s mobile app.
It is one of dozens of instant win games available exclusively on the Virginia Lottery’s app and at valottery.com. The odds per game of winning a prize in Jackpot Spectacular are 1 in 3.99.
Bundoc, a Virginia Beach native serving in the US Navy, said he has no immediate plans for his winnings.
